A Featherlight Nap
A yawn slips my lips
My eyelids flutter.
My hands drop the pen
My fingertips are butter.
I crane my head and look outside.
Sun singing, trees shining, birds blowing and I'm sitting.
Why are we here?
What's our purpose?
The world is so large.
The universe even larger.
The word infinity is unimaginable.
So why do we find ourselves so important?
Why do we consider ourselves special?
What, in fact, are we?
How have we changed the universe?
Will we be remembered?
By who?
Now I lay me down to sleep.
I close my eyes and dream and dream.
And when I wake, and hour later.
Our world, suddenly, seems much bigger.
