It's Never Easy
You say it’s hard
Filling cardboard boxes
With your mirrors, pens and pencils -
But not paper;
You don’t like paper -
And realizing
That girl across the hallway
Will now be you.
And you say it’s even harder,
Missing me as much as
That boyfriend in high school
You never had.
You think it’s easy for me,
But it’s no easier for me than
Winning a race
I wasn’t entered in.
