Doodles

And all we talk about is how we all want to get out
And all we know is how to
Just to get that one last chance at childhood we missed
Because we were trying too hard to grow up
Too fast
So we take a few lives in our wake without thinking a bit
And we let stars explode outside our windows
Because the light won’t come for hundreds of years
And we can’t turn back time, but we can turn our backs
This time
I empathize with sidewalks as I doodle little leaves
Covering myself in splendor that will wash away that night
Under the rain clouds that come and go to beat out the Sun
To feel like they matter for once, they take control as I lose
Control
And signals are sent through string and dented tin cans
And we talk until two in the morning about the plans we made
Eventually, the wind wears the bonds away in the rope
And it falls to the cement, our abandoned friend, yesterday’s
Doodles
