With a glistening blade watch it slither.
Be awed by its many heads. Sinuous.
Lustrous. Swallow the saliva that floods the dank tongue. Imagine fingertips burnishing its scaly surface. Feel the keen edge slit into the beast's core.
Taste Hydra's poisonous fumes:
suffocate.

Snake towards the river. With each step:
breathe. Closer, closer
and closer still
until the sun reflects upon the lake
seven or so many times - and realize
that I am no Heracles.
