Wake Up
A cloud of smoke filled the air.
Running feet, pounding hearts, frantic screams.
A cry for help lost in the commotion.
Can this really be happening?
This must be a dream,
but it’s not.
Wake up.
Phone calls go out to family and friends.
Tears fall like rain.
So many loved ones lost, so many needing to be found.
Not our country, not America, not me.
This can’t be real,
but it is.
Wake up.
Could six years really have gone by?
Where were you that day?
So many questions left unanswered.
How did this happen?
Will we let it happen again?
We can’t.
Wake up.
