"If I'd a knowed more, I would a loved more." -Pilate Dead, Song of Solomon

But he had played his masquerade and gotten caught.
Master of his game, alas he had tangled in his newfound love.
It’s hard to believe a girl caused this spatter of red spots

that now taints the snow, this is a lesson to be taught;
The lesson of a man who thought himself above,
But he had played his masquerade and gotten caught.

Surprisingly her brother was who he had been brought
down by; he wondered if she even knew what he was guilty of.
It’s hard to believe a girl caused this spatter of red spots.

He had tried to stay true to his plan, connecting the dots,
Naively thinking karma wouldn’t have its revenge thereof.
But he had played his masquerade and gotten caught.

Oh how he was mistaken and very easily sought,
Owning up to his misfortunes with courage for his beloved.
It’s hard to believe a girl caused this spatter of red spots.

And so he died in the name of love—a tangled knot
of a man; swiftly falling from the brother’s shielding glove.
But he had played his masquerade and gotten caught,
It’s not hard to believe a girl caused this spatter of red spots.
