Humbled Hope
All my life I've been running up this hill
to the sanctuary that sits upon this hill
all my life I've been boasting that I will
have the strength to carry myself up this hill.
The other day I saw his hand stretch from the hill
I reached up so I could grab his perfect will
then to my surprise the earth could not keep still
and an earthquake shook my faith on down that hill.
A river flowed from me beneath the hill
I've no more milk and now I cry over this spill
"Don't give up hope," my mother said,"You will, you will;
you haven't lost my child, you're only standing still."
All my life I've been running up this hill
to the sanctuary that sits upon this hill
boasting that I will see heaven at this hill
but maybe boasting was the sin that's kept me still.
