Now I Am Up
Everyday. It goes off.
The screeching. The beeps.
It goes off.
I hit the snooze button. Five minutes later.
It goes off.
It’s set for six, but It goes off at 5:55.
At 6:15, I hit the snooze button again.
At 6:20, It goes off.
I try to escape it. I shut it off.
Everyday. She wakes me up.
The shaking. The calls.
She wakes me up.
I turn over. By now its 6:30.
I tell her to go away.
She wakes me up.
I realize how late I am. I need to be out of the house in half an hour.
I wake up.
I am still groggy and I wash my face.
Now I am up.
