You Took The Night Away
You took the night away
A time once viewed through a child’s eyes
Now that innocence is gone
No filter
And where there was magic
Now there is fear
No yearn to explore the dark shadows
Caper about, drunk on youth
Now, we run away, or pierce the darkness
Stabbing holes
Destroying the mystery
Relegating it back to reality
You took the night away
And put it’s dark shadows behind every stranger’s eyes
Till trust is nowhere to be found
And only the young see the starlight and the moonlight
Shining in those same eyes
Till their eyes dim and reflect back the dark
Hate. Greed. Lust
Ugly words for ugly purposes
The words change
They become actions
But the ugliness is still there
Murderer. Thief. Rapist
Hiding behind the night
Suffocating the stars
Stopping the sun
Why did you take my night away?
