July
Pop, fizz, Dr. Pepper.
Heat rises from the
Egg-frying sidewalk
In waves,
Waving,
To fancy folks
With frantic fireworks
And little pink boy
Who lives long days
In the sun.
He jumps from square
To burning concrete square,
To patch of warm grass
Waving
His crackling sparkler,
As fire trucks,
And flashing lights,
And flying candy
Dance by.
He opens his red lips
And bites with his white teeth
To free the blue lollypop
He just rescued from the street.
Happy July!
It’s Independence Day,
Looking forward
To grilled hamburgers
And potato chips
And paper plates,
And fireworks.
Colorful, glittery fireworks,
And stars
On hats,
And on shirts,
And on painted faces,
Glowing faces,
And glowing necklaces,
Glowsticks and
Summer.
This will certify that the above work is completely original.
