The words come rushing
Out to meet ears,
They sting,
Like a slap in the face.
They burn
Like an inferno.
But unlike a slap, or a burn,
Your words hurt
More than any physical pain.
They hurt on the inside.
You spoke the truth
And I couldn’t handle it.
I used to use lies
Like a balm
For my pain.
But that was then.
Now I stand tall
While you beat on me
With your harsh words
Filled with truth.
Because now I know
I was hiding from the pain,
Under a blanket of deceit.
But who was I deceiving?
Not you.
You know the truth
You speak the truth
You hear the truth.
Me.
I was lying to me.
I thought I was strong.
But I was weak.
The truth hurts
And it takes real strength to face it.
