Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon.

Masks of silver, masks of gold
Hidden spirits, cruel and cold
Faces gilded and bejeweled
Leave the watchers easily fooled

Masks of iron, masks of steel
Hidden wounds have yet to heal
Faces strong and full of pride
Cloak the pain they feel inside

Masks of paper, masks of wood
Hidden strength not understood
Faces given not a glance
Heros and knights deprived their chance

But who would ever think to ask
To see the one behind the mask?
Faces are hidden, roles are played
In this, the worldwide masquerade

The author's comments:
How often do you take time to look beyond the mask and see who someone really is?

Being happy doesn't mean everything is perfect. It means you've decide to see beyond the imperfections.

I can completely relate to this. This is the best poem I've ever read. It should definitely be in the magazine. x)

i love everything about your poem. it's really true. we humans look at the mask but never behind the mask to see who is wearing it.
