Singer
I –
I was a singer once.
The cry of my soul
entwined with a melody
no one dared question
the song
of happiness
Every note that escaped
through my lips
rang with certainty and
my eyes twinkled
with truth
I was a singer once.
–
Then waves of darkness
came rolling through
vast expanses of sea and-
climbed upon the shore
of my soul
Children of despair:
the slithering vines, they-
wound across my body
entangling my thoughts
silencing me
I –
I was a singer once.
