SORTIE
Mid july
Under the blazing sun smelling the grass slowly simmer
Set out near the runway of a small airport
In southern michigan
With many others like me
A spectacular show begins
With the mustangs up and buzzing
Fascinating all of the crowd
For them to softly land for yankee lady and hairless joe
Giving rides to many
Taking off just in time for the next act
The mighty Diamond lil and FIFI roar to life
Defying physics just above our heads
Only to give way to the small nimble mig-17
Flying past at breakneck speeds
doing many passes meer feet off the ground
Finally landing for us to see the mig-23
The only one flying in the continent
It starts down the taxiway
Its nose Bouncing with every slight bump
Only to stop at the runway
With its wings outstretched and its engine spooled up
It slowly accelerates and delicately lifts off
Making the first pass its wings still outstretched
Now with full afterburner it swings around again
As its wings sweep back it heads behind us
Making one last pass it sets up to turn around
When all of a sudden
The plane disappears behind some trees
And a ball of fire erupts
The crowd shreeks
A deep group emerges from the explosion
The plane is gone forever
