A Reflective Enemy

I see my enemy
Across the battlefield
Hold my weapon
And raise a shield

Should I surrender?
Or stand and fight?
There she is
In plain sight

She tell me she’s the future
But the futures far away
I have my own opinion
And my own words to say

This is it
I stand and take a shot
There’s a burst of pain
And a faint little plot

I look down
And it’s blood that I see
Turns out my only enemy
Was me

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem a while ago. I was sitting in my bedroom, thinking about how everything seems so complicated, yet at times life can be blissfully simple. For some reason I couldn't pull myself away from my mirror, I was frozen in front of it thinking about how much myself and the world has changed over time. I did not intend to write this poem but now thinking about it, I realize that this poem can relate not only perfectly to myself, but to other teens as well.
