When Life Slows
The delicate blue sky is swallowed by shade
A raging gray army of clouds in its wake
The air grows thick as a choir of birds fades
Windows creak closed, locking out the rich smell of rain
The first drops fall
Gently, each is a tiny dancer twisting through the air
The rain buries the towns
Devouring their glowing orange lights in cool tones of blue
The melody of drops sing a lullaby
Encompassing the world below in a comforting hug
Long lost friends meeting again
Life slows
The rain pours past joyful faces
Watching the round droplets race over foggy glass
Rushing down shaking shoulders
Drops trace over laughing bodies to feet, pooling on wet pavement
Through cracked windows spilling with soft light
The rain sings to a napping cat
The percussion of drops slowly subsides
Graceful beads roll from sight, the rain wishes us goodbye
Trees no longer dance
The sky no longer sings
The sun crawls back out, showering the world once again in light
Yet still, the wet grass reminds that the rain will soon come again
