Escape

I close my eyes as my room begins to spin
I pull my knees up and tuck in my chin
Silent sobs escape from my throat
I wish I could escape too, by train or by boat
I'd travel to another, better world
Where I'd claim the land and have my flag unfurled
The rules will be mine and I'll keep my parents away
My buried laughter will again light the day.
Tonight I hide like I often do
Under my blankets soaking my pillow right through
My tears are spilling non-stop again
If this pain will end, I wonder when
I cry until I fall asleep
That's the only time I do not weep.
I hope when I wake up I'll be somebody new
Like one who has a happy family to love you
A father who'll help and refrain from threats
A mother who has children without regrets
Perhaps even a sibling or two
Giving me somebody to talk to
But until that miracle somehow comes true
I'm stuck with horrible days to live through.

I would also like to thank you for your comment on my poem. i like a lot of your imagery, especially in the 6th and 10th lines. i LOVE the word "unfurled" its not one most people usually uses which is a shame. it fits with the line about escaping by train or boat, because when i think about flags unfurling i always think about old fashioned battle ships. :P

Thanks for commenting on my story! This poem is beautiful. I love it so much. The end rhyme is perfect, and the picture that this story brings made me cry. I hope that whatever trial that you are going through right now will soon come to pass and that soon you may see the sun once more. :)

i really like what you did with the rhyme, because a lot of time rhyme makes poetry sound kinda cliche. that really wasn't a problem here though.

This is a beautiful poem, and it is obvious that you spoke from the heart. Thank you for allowing me a glimpse into your world and a chance to appreciate what I have in this world: a loving mother and step-dad...and a not so loving sister and brother >.< lol...I hope that whatever pain you are in now will clear up eventually because you deserve every happiness that there is. Good luck, and keep writing!

I just wanted to thank you SO MUCH for the comment on my poem! I love yours too, I think it has a great meaning about how no matter what life's trials put you through you always need a family and how comforting it is to have one.

Great job! Keep writing!
