What We Call A Dream

This is what we call a dream

It starts in the night; you can’t tell when,
And winds itself around your subconscious.
It constricts your thoughts to focus on itself
And you don’t know what is real.
Rarely does it make any sense at all

But it has you fooled
Choking into deliria; your brain fades
To leave the dream with nothing

But the shell of a tall boy in a back alley

Who once had hopes

And dreams
He was going to play guitar,

And sing for millions,

But inspiration flew as his dream crumbled

Leaving him with a bottle and a cloud of smoke

We all have them;
Poised; they wait for us to fall

Asleep

So they can spring,

Grab hold,

And leave you on the streets

With nothing but broken dreams
That wore you out
And never came true.
The fact is,

And we all must face it;

Dedication takes a lifetime

While dreams don’t last but a night.
