Red

White

Blue

Birthchild

Of

Seas and pews

Cuba

You held me in your arms

Only to tell me I was too far gone

So you left me flailing

Just a baby

I Was wailing

Needing a home

But your hands

Were too worn

The seeds you sowed

Could never grow

America

Will be my new home

This home

That was painted over and over

Too many times before

Yet I can still see you

Cuba

Underneath

The freshly done paint

You were the first layer

Then america took it’s brush

Painted over you

I will never be the same

This grotesque new shade

Of paint

These flags

Red

White

Blue

But none of them represent you?

No.

I am an outcast in my country

An immigrant in yours.

I will never be at home

There will never be room for both.

Red

White

Blue

I am not apart of either of you

You will never welcome me

For what I am

I am too white

Too unalike

Too guera to be latina

I am too different

For some reason I have an accent

I am simultaneously both

yet

There will never be room for both

Neither of you

Has ever been

My host

This is why

Will

Never

Have

Home

Hi! I wrote this piece in hopes of expelling the complicated feelings I have toward my two nationalities!
