A young boy strolls along the beach, viewing shells scattering the coast.

Watching his brothers lie in the water, some splashing and screaming.

He’s honored on June sixth for the courage he had displayed.


The author's comments:

This is written in a Korean poetic form called sijo in which there are three lines with a combined total of 44-46 syllables. The third line must have a twist. I wrote this based off of the WWII operation known as D-Day and the respect I have for the people who ventured out onto the beaches that day.
