Dying Place
Here and now,
In my bed,
Blind and weak,
I am okay
For in my head
I see a place,
My dying place
My eyes are closed,
I cannot see
The brilliant moon
Behind the clouds
And I cannot focus
Enough to wonder,
In the beauty
Of my midnight field
But I can feel
The grass beneath me,
Holding me tightly
In a final embrace
And right beside me,
I hold the hands
Of my family
And squeeze them gently
The time has come.
I open my eyes
To face my fate
And reach into the sky
Somewhere
A sparrow cries,
Somewhere
I star is being born
