Better in Memory Poem
Christmas of 2014, best Christmas ever!
Like a kid in a candy store, my eyes shined with every button.
I made friends that I don’t plan on losing anytime soon.
New games, new experiences, new challenges.
Memories that will never die.
Even through the years, relationships held strong,
Even the ones that aren’t with people.
When the time came to say goodbye, I refused.
To this day, I still keep it close to my heart.
You helped me make We, you helped to make Us.

Christmas back in 2014, the Wii U had just come out two years earlier, and I wanted it more than anything in the world. I didn’t ask for it because it was really expensive at the time at around $200-$250, and for a 12 year old kid that's a lot of money into one present. I had the Wii and my favorite game on it was Super Smash Bros Brawl. I played that game nonstop all the time because I loved it so much, and when the Wii U came out, they announced a new Smash Brothers game for both the new console and the 3DS, which I already had, I was really excited. So I just asked for the game on the 3DS, and mom and everyone else said the classic “I’ll think about it” or “We’ll see”. Come Christmas time the last box I had to open was a larger one than expected and oh boy was I excited. My mom had pulled her phone out and started recording the unboxing, and caught my reaction to actually getting a Wii U the same Christmas I had asked for it. She still may have the video somewhere, but I was crying so much, it was the first time I ever remember crying from pure happiness in my entire life. I still have the Wii U in my closet to this day, and it’s still in workable condition. There was a game that came out in 2018, 4 years after I got my Wii U, for the Nintendo Switch which came out in 2017, and surprise surprise, it was a new Smash Bros game. I didn’t have enough money to buy the game when it came out, so my mom recommended I sell the Wii U. I had told her no, because that console has, believe it or not, done so much for me in 4 years time, and I stand by this statement to this day, I will never willingly give that thing away.
