Farewell
I am standing at your doorstep, ready to knock,
When my fingers freeze and heart stops,
I can hear you singing your favourite song,
Dancing as the beat moves along,
Completely unaware of my intentions to break this love.
I stand still as you open the door,
Give me a hug and lift me off the floor,
Kisses on my cheek and questions of my day,
I wait for the perfect moment to say,
"Sorry my beloved but my heart beats for another."
But I bite my tongue and stare at a random post cover.
I sit on the precarious chair and wait,
As you bring dishes that I hate,
You never knew for I always completed my plate!
But today, the knives and forks remain unused.
For, I have a distressing news,
The days that I loved you thus are waning,
Sorry my dearest, but I can love you no longer,
It is a cruel game that I chose to play,
I admit, farewell, my hapless lover.
