Where did it come from?

I saw it being carried by a cool and gentle breeze

Shaped like a delicate tear and painted with Earth’s hues,

This traveler doesn’t resemble any near trees.

What convinced him that this was the path to choose?

Why did you fall from your tree?

A mysterious past hides in his broken stem

Were you seeking a valuable lost treasure?

Were you exiled for an act for which you were condemned?

Or were you enticed by the wind’s sweet whispers of adventure?

How long have you been alone?

The plague of time surrounds your borders

Your once vibrant colors have almost withered away.

It is impossible to escape nature’s firm orders.

Your curiosity and wonder have led you astray

Are you content?

Was it worth leaving your mother’s nurturing sanctuary?

Was the adventure you experienced worth the cost?

If regret you had, none is shown for your complexion is merry

It seems you enjoyed the exciting adventure of being lost.

It was profound luck to have found the old traveler,

Yet to understand him I will need an unraveler.

The author's comments:

I was walking outside my house, when, by chance, I found a leaf. This leaf is the one that inspired the poem. He was rolling along the concrete with seemingly no direction in mind. I picked him up and studied him. I asked him questions yet he didn't answer. It's a shame leaves cannot talk. P.S (the leaf in the picture isn't the real leaf. The traveling leaf refused to have his picture taken)
