The Music pulses as the Moon rises;
I'm running just to keep the pace.
Just beyond the Trees I see it: Life.
My Lungs are searing and Breath straining.
The Melody urges me onward.
Branches tie me to this World;
Knotting, grasping, clutching,
Their Desperation equals mine.
Feet pound the frenzied Tempo.
Eyes widen like the Full Orb.
The Guitar is stinging me,
Like a Bee, driving me faster.
Is that my Life Beat or the Bass?
I see my Path by the White Light,
It is broken and badly scarred.
This Battle is not mine alone;
Many have passed and fallen.
But I will not join them;
The Music is with me and in me,
The Moon is my Virgil.
The Spider Web of leaves breaks,
And I breath in freedom,
Cold and pure and smooth.
Around me spirals a Melody,
Which the Angels could not rival
And the Demons not ruin.
I am bathed and cleansed
In the Fire of the Pearl.

Tribute/Inspiration to Emily Dickinson

The author's comments:
It was suggested to me to attepmt to mimc another poet who I liked in order to expand my voice or style. After reading about 12 Dickinson poems in a row, I decided she would be the first test. This poem is the result.
