Like a butterfly in a storm,
Like a soap bubble,
Like a single thread of a spider’s web,
Dancing, leaping, flaring up,
Recoiling from our breath,
Watching us with frightened eyes,
From its darkened center,
So delicate,
So childlike,
So tiny,
Vibrant, full of life,
Snuffed out in an instant,
By a gentle breeze,
Clinging to life,
Hoping to endure,
Yet over in a puff of smoke,
Empty,
Blackened wick,
Waiting for another day,
Ready for rebirth.

This is something I wrote a long time ago, in watching a candle flame. It interested me, and I decided to write this poem.
