i found you
34 heartbreaks and 7 scars late
yet somehow you became
closer to me than the clothes set against my skin
seeping into my pores like morphine for my bitter heartaches
a little voice told me to ease up on the dosage
because two steps taken too soon could lead to
one quick death
but as the years went by
i stopped counting
as if there wasn't enough time for me to calculate the cost
so i simply placed my heart in your hands
trusting you to keep it beating like it should
even though i found you
34 heartbreaks and 7 scars too late
