Listen
Listen to the people
sing their silent songs,
and listen to the children
who have done nothing wrong.
Listen to the stories
the children hear each night,
and listen to their fear
as they hear their parents fight.
Listen to the music
that the people all enjoy,
and listen to the sounds
of an old and worn out toy
Listen to the sirens call
beneath the golden moon,
and listen to the nightmare.
There won’t be sunlight soon.
Listen to the people,
but not the population.
Listen to what children learn,
but not their education.
Listen to the child,
but not to the minor.
Don’t listen to the adult,
but listen to the mother.
Listen to what people see
when they look in the mirror.
Listen to the people,
their hopes, their dreams, their fears.
