Robbed by Time

I saw you walking towards us at the airport,
Excitement and emotions rose, but I stopped short.
Mom and sisters, filled with love, ran up to greet you,
But I just stood there, finding out that it is true.
Father, you've not noticed, but you were robbed by Time.

Alice says that Time isn’t money, he doesn’t need it,
That he’s not a thief, a joker, a nitwit.
I think Alice fell down that hole and hit her head,
Any smart robber would steal rare diamonds, not lead.
But Father, Time only stole your age, not your heart.

He took the color of your hair, from black to white,
But not your wisdom, your sharp blade-like piercing sight.
He stole your youth, unearthed it out using a knife,
But not your cheerful attitude shown towards life.
Father, you are still the man you once were before.

I ran and hugged you tight, with all the love I had,
And said to you: “I love you no matter what, dad!”

I wrote this poem for my father who works overseas, so I can't see him as often as I would like to. He is 50 years old but is still working extremely hard for my family. I miss him a lot, and once when he came to visit us, I noticed how he has aged over the years. How his hair used to be jet black but is now the color of a zebra; how his wrinkles seem to be the wrinkles of an elephant, long and deep as the waves in an ocean. Yet still, he jokes about the wonders of growing old, like how much money he will save when he finally qualifies for the senior discount. For an old man, he has the heart of a child.

In this poem, I referred to the 2016 movie Alice Through the Looking Glass, and how Time is actually a person. I hope you can make this connection. Thank You.
