Everyone goes through hardships, we just have different stories.

For some reason, it has been branded into our brains to think that it’s not okay to feel depressed, unwanted, lonely. Somewhere along the line, people have begun to shun people who feel this way. Society has made it out to be that those of us who feel like this are freaks, weirdos, losers, emos, whatever you want to call it. Lately, many people have begun to take notice in all of this, stating that society is judgmental and that it needs to change.

But does the change ever happen? No. Why not? Because we are society. I know it hurts to think this, but all of us make up society, whether we like it or not. So, change isn’t going to happen when you just simply complain about the system. Change will happen when you actually put effort in your actions and try to make a difference. This post, this blog, is my effort.

I cannot express how passionate I feel about all of this. Depression, anorexia, anxiety, all of these “disorders” are labeled on us who “are different”. I’m not saying that these disorders are fake, though. I would just use a different wording than what people usually do. I hate how we have to label the ones who already feel like they’re freaks. A label like depression doesn’t help. Anyway, I have always been a strong believe that we all have been depressed or will be in the future. I know, it’s a horrible thing to think. But, I truly think that it’s, well, normal.

Have you ever met a truly happy person? A person that has been happy their entire life? I’m not just talking about toddlers, I’m talking about teenagers, middle-aged adults, seniors. The whole shebang. It’s practically impossible. There is no way that someone can never feel sadness. Yeah, some may feel sadness more than others, but what I’m trying to say is that it’s normal to feel sad. It’s okay. Life isn’t easy for anyone. You might think that someone else has a great life, but they could just be putting up a front. Plus, it’s hard to see the truth when depression clouds your eyes.

A lot of you may be thinking, “But sadness and depression are different.” I know, trust me, I know. I’ve been there before. I’ve been depressed. I thought that no one understood me, that I was all alone in this world. Ironically, a lot of other people feel the same way. So, we’re alone together, in a sense.

Maybe one day we all will open our eyes and see the brokenness around us. Maybe one day we will finally open our hearts to those around us and lend a shoulder to others. Maybe one day we will accept each other for who we are and for who we will become. Maybe one day we won’t only learn to love others, but we’ll learn to love ourselves.

I just feel passionately about this and decided to share my opinion.

Hey! I know I made a comment before, but this is different. This post inspired me to write my own, so I thought I show let you know (because proper credit is required).   Here's the link: TeenInk.com/opinion/discrimination/article/720207/Being-Unique/

This was beautiful. It was poetic, and it was true, which is what counts. Nobody has never been sad, so then why are people discriminated? I guess we are truly 'alone together'.   Amazing article!
