The Wonders of Homework

     One of the biggest burdens kids and teenagers deal with are the endless amounts of homework being assigned from their teachers. From my experience, I used to hate homework because I could never focus on the 3 paragraph essay that was expected to be completed the day after it was given. I was never a huge fan of spending countless hours of homework after an 8 hour school day until my mother lectured me about the wonders of homework.

     First of all, I believe that homework is important because of the work ethic needed from the students. Although students go to school for an estimated 8 hours a day, it is up for them to finish their assignments and turn it in on time. This gives students the urge to do something productive instead of wasting their time on useless activities. Also, this prepares students for the reality after high school and college. If teenagers think that homework is a waste of time and should not be done in a short period of time, then they will never get used to the feeling of being rushed and exhausted like adults with taxes and bills are. This is why it is important to start kids early on after school education.

     Next, I think students should be assigned homework because it refreshes them on what they learned in school. In many cases, students will feel like they are familiar with a topic that was being taught in school but forget it the next day. My peers and I can relate to this because we are always asking each other for guidance during class, instead of focusing on our teachers and their teachings. This is why homework will stimulate our minds to remember more information for upcoming assessments.

     To conclude, homework is a fundamental part of a student’s education. It helps to reinforce their minds on the material learned in class. It also teaches them the responsibility of turning in assignments on time. I was never open-minded of the thought of homework, and up until the point when my mom scolded my childish behavior while I was doing homework, I always thought that it was a teacher’s way of punishing students for no apparent reason. Hopefully, more and more students will understand why homework is crucial to their everyday life.
