On the day Frank Baum put pen to paper, a new hero was born.

Now there's many heroes in the world, but how many are dogs like my hero Toto? In the play and book The Wizard of Oz, many people believe Dorothy Gale was the hero but I believe it was Toto. As Frank Baum describes Toto as a, " Little black dog with long silky hair and small black eyes that twinkled merrily on either side of his funny, wee noes. " Also known as a Small Terrier dog.

Now I know the main character Dorothy Gale is a large part of this story, but how would she have lived without her dog Toto? He was the ONLY character besides herself that was with Dorothy throughout the entire story. I mean the story practically started with Dorothy talking about Toto.   

Toto is the one who sniffed out the Tin Man first of all. He's the one who scared off the cowardly lion with the help of Dorothy's nice slap to the jaw. Toto is the one who opens the curtain to reveal Oz, while Dorothy and the other characters were looking around. Toto even growls at the flying monkey and protects Dorothy then ends up saving her life. Toto is the real Hero of the Wizard of Oz and always will be, he's the eyes and ears, the tail and the noes.
