Should teens be allowed to see rated R movies?
“Two tickets for Saving Pirate Ryan please.”
“Sorry you have to be older than 17 to watch this movie.”
This is what you would hear, as a teen when you go to the movies and you want to see a rated R movie. I think that teens (13 or older” should be allowed to watch rated r movies because the world is full of the same things, we are preparing ourselves to become mature adults, and there isn’t much of a difference between a PG-13 and a rated R movie.
I can assure you that most teens watch the news every once in a while. It talks about how someone has murdered someone else yet they say that a rated R movie is full of violence. Teens hear bad language almost daily. Some kids talk to their friends using bad language or sometimes you even hear parent cussing when they are mad. Things that a rated R movie could have are also things you hear in the outside world.
To see a rated R movie you have to be at least 17 years old because that is the age they believe you are “mature”, but just because you’re 17 doesn’t make you mature, and being younger than 17 doesn’t make you immature. Besides, a two hour movie can’t possibly ruin your life; in fact it could help you in some ways. You can learn how to deal with problems in a mature way, or learn new things.
For example in the movie Saving Pirate Ryan, it showed things about the war. It was rated R, but it can help kids learn about our history and what happened during WWII.
The difference between a PG-13 and a rated R movie is very slim. In both you can see violence, sexual scenes or hear bad language, but the only difference is that a rated R movie has a little more.
The age requirement to watch a rated R movie should be lowered to be 13 years or older. Teens should be able to learn about life, and not have to be 17 to be allowed to watch a movie.
