Drinking and driving is a common stress in our everyday life. It puts many innocent drivers at risk, having them play a victim in a life threatening attack. Many people who drink and drive that aren’t necessarily always teens, cause families to lose their family members. The victim’s families are affected by this because so many careless drinkers that choose to drive under the influence kill others on the road and that member can never be replaced. However, drinks can.

The Baltimore Sun stated that on February 16, 2005, 2 days after Valentine’s Day, my parents both senior citizens were on their way to work. On this particular night, an impaired driver speeding down the freeway at 95 MPH scammed into the back of their 2002 Grand Cherokee, careening them into a wall and their vehicle spun out of control and again hit the wall but not before hitting another vehicle and road signs as they were doing repair on the freeway. Due to severe impact, the vehicle was totaled and my father who’s seat split in half and been thrown from the passenger seat to the middle of the vehicle was left with broken vertebrae in his back and double aneurysms both around his heart and in his stomach.

Donald Nolan lost his father one year and one month later found gone, with his head on a crossword puzzle game, due to the aneurysms bursting out of his heart. A man, who still has a future ahead of him, even as a senior citizen, gone, causing his family grief for the rest of their lives, all due to a careless drunk man who has this crazy idea to get into a vehicle, while intoxicated, and drive.

Not only do we go through this but we also hear about many famous celebrities drinking and driving too. Khloe Kardashian and Paris Hilton are a couple examples of this. Khloe Kardashian, who drove while intoxicated, got pulled over, and put into jail in March of 2007, and unlike many, has remorse for her actions and has reached out to the public through television and radio interviews. People Magazine wrote that Khloe Kardashian stated that I have to go to the hospital and see injured people who were either a drunk driver themselves or were hurt by someone Kardashian, who appears on E!’s Keeping Up With the Kardashians, says of her community service. Thankfully, they weren’t killed. Paris Hilton, however, wasn’t as remorseful as Khloe Kardashian was. Unlike Khloe, Paris brushed it off her shoulders and acted as if it was nothing. As if she didn’t put drivers at risk, while drinking and driving. She, (Paris Hilton) drank one margarita at an event that evening, she said, and was on her way to a fast food restaurant with Kimberley Stewart, Rod Stewart’s daughter. I’m in my SLR, which is a little fast, so maybe I was speeding a little bit and I got pulled over.

No matter what goes on in society today, it’s never under any circumstances and okay thing to go out, drink, and drive while you’re drunk. That’s putting not only you, but the victims on the road at risk. Not only you two, but your family, and their families at risk, also. When I was real little, my father drank and drove home on the wrong side of the freeway. He almost lost his life, and I almost lost my father. Not only that, but my mother would’ve lost her husband and my sister would’ve lost her father also. Now that he’s realized that, every time he goes out to have a few drinks with some friends, my mom comes and picks him up. Think about that before stepping to a vehicle while having too much to drink. Calling a friend/family member to come pick you up or even calling a cab doesn’t hurt.

I'm a new driver on the roads. This topic inspired me to throw my opinion out there so that not only my life, but everyone on the road's life can drive in a safe enviroment.
