What you didnt know about depression
You would never know what someone is going through or been through, which is why you shouldn't judge people, because you definitely don't know their story. For some people, depression might only be episodic and overcome it within a matter of weeks or it could be long term. Depression has become a common mental health problem.
Situational depression, is the type of episodic depression, typically occurs as a result of traumatic life experiences. This condition is also referred to as adjustment disorder and is often short term, lifting when the situational trigger is resolved. I can relate to this on a personal level. I was diagnosed with adjustment disorder just last year in December.
Teen depression, in particular, is a very serious mental health issue that causes a persistent feeling of sadness, it affect how teenagers thinks, feel, and behave. It can affect anyone or their family and friends. Everyone should have some sort of awareness about depression.
Depression may cause changes in sleep appetite, energy level, concentration, daily behavior, or self-esteem. Depression is a chemical imbalance of the brain in which the “feel good” substance, known as dopamine, is no longer produced in the same amounts. According to Healthline it’s estimated that each year 17 million American adults will experience depression. Millions of people are going through depression right now. It can also be associated with suicide.
Why don't we talk about depression as much as we should, for such a serious issue? Depression not only impacts the one going through it but also the people around them, such as family and friends. It impacts whether or not someone lives or dies. It impacts our daily lives and can last for a long time.Untreated depression can result in emotional, behavioral and health problems that affect every area of your teenager's life.
Depression is an important topic and isn't known about as much as other health problems, for example , Cancer is well known throughout the world. We need to raise awareness for depression especially in teenagers. It shouldn't be a surprise for parents if it were to happen to their child but rather they know how it works and exactly how to approach it. Education is the first step in the battle against this disease…
