10 things I know are true

One,

The first thing I know to be true is that we can never know anything for sure. You can never be 100% sure that anything will ever happen. There is always something that could go wrong, or something that could throw off everything you know. You can never be exact what temperature it will be tomorrow, or the last time you see someone that you’ll ever see them again. We can just assume things are going to happen, or try and put scientific reasoning behind these assumptions, but we can never be absolutely sure something will happen in life. It’s a game of hit or miss between if something is going one way or the other.

Two,

Second, everything happens for a reason. Whether you believe something spiritual is allowing things to happen or not, everything does have a purpose. We are all born into this world to be an influence, to make an impact on the world, to the people on it, and leave an impression that no one else can. Everything has reasoning, whether you want things to happen or not, it’s meant to happen. The sun comes up everyday to allow plants to grow, rain falls to renourish the soil, plants, and animals on the earth. We exist to take care of the planet that we live on, and I’m here to leave a mark.

Three,

Third, my mind is the one thing that can change my life, it can both help me and hurt me. You’re mind is the one thing that controls everything you do. It can be the most helpful thing when you have to sit down and think things out, or make decisions about things. However it can hurt you if you make the wrong decisions. Make you choose the wrong option. It can hurt you to think the wrong things, think negatively, or to think that you don’t mean anything. The mind controls everything you do, your actions, thoughts, feeling you may not want to have. Sometimes positive feeling that can brighten your day, or persuade you to try new things and be happy. On the other hand it can make you have negative feelings, choose the wrong option and wind up somewhere you don’t want to be, or get you in trouble when you meant no harm

Four,

Fourth, for better answers, we need to ask better questions. We all have those questions we are too afraid to ask, so what seems more easy to ask, is to ask something that we understand and know where we want the answer to go, but the receiver doesn’t. We don’t ask what really want to ask, so we receive answers we don’t really want to receive. Don’t be scared to ask people difficult question, most likely, they would rather you ask them the question you want to ask, so they can answer truthfully. You might be on the same page on what you’re both talking about, but skimming the edge of a question you want to ask, will only get you a skimming the edge answer you want to hear. People can’t read your mind no matter how much you think they can. They can assume what you might be hinting at, but no one is sure of what you’re thinking than you. Don’t be afraid to ask difficult questions you want to know the answers to. You’ll either get the answer you want to hear, or the person isn’t comfortable telling you that, and it’s better knowing someone doesn’t want to talk about something than always wondering. Say what you want to say, because otherwise you won’t get the answer you want to hear.

Five,

Fifth, work on the one thing you’re really good at, not 20 different things you’re mediocrely good at. Practicing that one talent and perfecting it will get you farther than 20 different mediocre talents you might have. It’s great if you’re good at many different things, but concentrate on what you’re really passionate about. Don’t overwhelm yourself with tons of things you like, take the time to be really great at that one or few thing you really care about. If you really concentrate on one or few things it might benefit you more than having 20 different mediocre things that won’t get you very far, it’ll just make you overwhelmed in the end. Perfecting a few things will open up more doors in your future than being ‘just good’ at many different things.

Six,

Sixth, we shouldn’t ask questions  we don’t really want the answers to. Everyone asks questions they don’t really want the answers to. Such as ‘how are you?’ you don’t really care how people are. You’re only satisfied if they respond with a ‘good’ or ‘great’. If someone were to answer how they’re really feeling you wouldn’t care. You’d think, ‘jeez I just wanted a one word answer’. Well? Why ask the question in the first place if you didn’t want a true answer on how a person is feeling. Or rhetorical questions. We all use them to either get someone off our backs, or be rude to someone in some way. If a person were to answer a rhetorical question you’d be thrown off guard, right? Well you asked the question in the first place. You ask a question, someone answers, is that not the polite thing to do? No? Then why ask?

Seven,

Seventh, curiosity may have killed the cat, but he would have never known it didn’t work unless he tried. Be adventurous, and try new thing, open your horizons and learn about the world. Be curious, it might bring you great thing, and great memories, or there is a small chance it won’t go your way, but you’ll never know unless you try. Your curiosity may range from talking to someone you just met, to exploring the world. Most likely you’ll be beneficial from thing thing you do, rather than the things you don’t. Be that curious cat, not the one who died always wondering ‘what if?’.

Eight,

Eigth, we only regret the things we didn’t do when we had the chance. You are not guaranteed a tomorrow, take chances when you can, because once that opportunity is gone, you’ll regret it forever. The forever thought of ‘what if’ is worse than trying things and knowing they wouldn't work out in the first place. Trying and experiencing new things opens your mind and you get more out of trying new things than you would have if you never did.

Nine,

Ninth, there will always be someone better than you, you just need to prove your capability and be better than them. You may not be the best but you can work the hardest and be the most determined and that will get you farther than being the best would have. There is always going to be that one person in life that’s going to be better than you, unless you’re that person, which is a slim chance. Don’t let that one person who’s better than you ever make you feel like not doing things you love anymore. Be determined to do better than them. Determination and perseverance proves more that you really care and are passionate about the subject, or you really want to be the best. Natural talent is one thing, but showing you really care and work hard will get you more places than natural talent. Working hard proves to people that you’re worthy. Natural talent doesn’t really prove anything besides the fact that you’re good at something and don’t put much effort into working hard.

Ten,

Tenth, no matter how bad things are, remember, they could be a lot worse. No matter how bad things appear, they will get better. Don’t think that everything bad in the universe is happening to you at some point in time. Try and be as happy as you can. If there are haters on you block them out. You are your own person and don’t let other people get you down. No matter how bad things appear now they’ll get better, when for other people in the world they never will. There are millions of people out there in this world living on $1 a day and suffer from horrible diseases, or are living through a natural disaster, and yet they don’t pity themselves or think everything is against them. Enjoy what you have. If you’re reading this it means you have access to a computer, which means you have wifi connection, which means you have money to afford it, and live in a house and go to school. A lot of people in this world don’t even know what wifi is, neither the less would ever imagine being able to use it. Be happy with what you’ve got, because you’re probably living a quiet stable life, when millions of people in this world don’t know what living a stable life is.

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece for my creative writing classes assignment. We had to write about 10 things we knew to be true. I chose these 10, because even though they may be kind of obvious, they seemed very sentimental to me, and things I tend to think about more than not. I thought sharing my input, or my perspective on these 10 things, may give someone else out there a different way of looking about thing.
