Monster Ride

Adrenaline was pumping throughout my body as I was about to face the beast. My mom my best friend and I were walking on to the biggest scariest roller coaster in the park. This was the God of all rides; the master of all rollercoasters… the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios in Orlando Florida.

We were approaching the front of the line of the big red metal coaster before I knew it and I couldn’t believe I was actually going to ride the monstrous coaster. Trying to cover up how nervous I was with excitement wasn’t working as well as I thought it would. I felt like I was going to ride my very first roller-coaster again with so many nerves flying throughout me, and thoughts of accidental death by rollercoaster swirling in my head.
“Are you guys excited?” My mom asked interrupting my thoughts.
I replied, “yeah mom I am, i’m just a little scared.” while my best friend Zoe just simply nodded in agreement.
Zoe, my mom, and I raced on and immediately got seated in the middle section of the cart. The cart was moving closer to the track going upwards and we only had 30 seconds to get our safety levers on. I was as excited as I was when I rode my very first bike without training wheels.
The ride assistant operators frantically made sure that everyone had on the safety levers so they wouldn’t fall out, and well… die. Panicked, I was trying to choose music on the screen in front of me, for there were speakers on everybody’s seats so you can listen to music while riding the ride. I thought to myself, “Where’s all the good music? Don’t they know this is music from like the 80’s?” After I chose my music, all I could hear was Gloria Gaynor’s “I will Survive”  because that’s the first song I saw so I chose it. “Hey I actually like this song!” I thought.
“Hey Zoe have you chosen music yet?” I asked trying to talk over my music to Zoe who was sitting to the left of me.
“No I don’t know any songs and don’t know how to work this.” she replied while laughing.
I laughed back and at that point, everything seemed more real.
We were soon going up the hill, anxiousness and excitement levels sky rocketing. The track was facing directly upwards, shooting for the clouds so we were directly on our backs facing up. It was like I was a NASA rocket shooting into outer space aiming for the moon. I had never been on a roller-coaster that went straight up, so this was really a terrifying experience.
Since we were on our backs, I couldn’t really see when we were going to get to the top which just simply added to my nervousness. As the cart was going up, I felt like the coaster was going to fail, go backwards, and I would die. Every inch closer to getting to the top of the first hill, meant another ounce of anticipation.
While we were getting closer to the very top of the immense hill, I remembered what my mom had once told me, “Always scream on a rollercoaster it makes it more fun.”
The fresh air slapped me in the face when we finally reached the top. I thought to myself “this is it this is what i’ve been waiting for and i’m gonna die. Well I won’t die, but I feel like I will. Oh my gosh pull yourself together Julia!  I could see everything in the park, considering that we were 17 stories above the wondrous, gigantic theme park. We went over the peak of the hill, and the next thing I knew we were descending down the hill. I let out a high pitched “AHHHHHH” probably so high, dogs would be able to barely hear it. My red hair was whipping around with the wind as we were going down the hill, and the thrill was amazing. Even though we were going at an amazing speed, I could still clearly hear Gloria Gaynor blasting through my eardrums. We were going down the hill at almost 65 miles per hour and even though it was a shorter hill, we were still very high up and we were going as fast as light itself so it was still petrifying. The rush was greater than rush I had probably ever felt on any other roller coaster, and it was worth the hour and thirty minute wait.
After the first hill, all I could see was the shiny ruby red track. We were going so fast everything was honestly a blur to me, (although I could still hear the 80’s music coming from my speaker) and the thrill ride ended a lot sooner than I wished it would, considering how fun that minute of riding the ride was. We exited the horrendous ride, me feeling a little dizzy. I could smell the aroma of churros that a cart was selling, and I felt brave for riding the rollercoaster. At that point I then realized I was glad that I rode the ride. I learned that you only have one chance to do some things, and that you should enjoy it and not waste it because it can turn out to be an amazing experience with great memories.
