Blindsided
“Bam” as I try to get to the sideline without falling, I was seeing double and very dizzy. It was the start of my football game. We were playing at home against Holy Spirit and I just experienced one of the worst hits of my life.
It was the 5th game of the 2014 football season. I started out by playing defensive tackle it was the first few plays of the game.
On their next drive they started on their own 20 yard line we lined up, the quarterback was under center. He said hut. I flew off the line looking for the ball carrier.
All of a sudden I was looking at the sky. A tight end from Holy Spirit had blindsided me. As i was stare at the skying for what felt like days i thought to myself “man this hurt when i hit the ground” and yes it did.
After the play was over it took me awhile to get up I didn’t need help off the field but I was very dizzy so I stumbled to the sideline. I was thinking to myself “oh no this could end the season if it bad enough.” I got checked by the doctor he said, “well it is not a major concussion but you will have a bad headache”. He also said, “ you might be able to play again if your head feels better.”
In the fourth quarter my head felt good enough to play I thought. The coaches checked over me once more they said I was good to play so I went back in. I played a few more plays. Nothing big happened they were driving down the field slowly taking their time. On the 7th play of the drive the same guy came back for round 2. I was running to pile to help tackle the running back then just like the first time he blindsided me again. Just like the first time I was on the sideline but lucky for me the game was almost over. We won that game it was a amazing game. The final score was 22 to 14
The next day I went to school but I had major headache. I told my mom when I got home she thought i might have gotten a concussion from the second hit but she made me fight through the pain. She made me stay at school. It was the worst day ever. She told me that she would call the doctor to see if I did get a concussion. I thought we should have went to the hospital but she said no the doctor will be just fine, we did end up going to the doctor he said “well it isn’t a major concussion but you will have bad headaches regularly for a few days”. Man was he right I had some of the worse headaches that week, but by the next week I was fine and ready to get back on the field.
Ever since that day on that field i realized that my time playing football could end any time. So i really need to see where people are coming from. If don’t I could get hit like again it would be over. That is all it will take one hit ends playing tackle football forever.
