Tears ran down my cheeks, the pain grew in my heart. “Your ugly” “Your fat” the words ran through my head, like an avalanche of pain and hate. The strong hatred grew to a hatred towards myself, making me believe the things they called me, maybe I was ugly and maybe I was fatter than the other girls. I would see the models in magazines, and look at myself in the mirror, all I could think about was how I needed to be skinnier.

According to “Eating Disorders Statistics” by ANAD 95% of people who have an eating disorder are between the ages 12 and 25 years old. The main cause for these issues is the media and the way magazines photoshop the models to look like the dream body every female wants. A few ways females dream of having their bodies is, a simple thigh gap and a hour-glass shaped body. The media photoshops pictures so women will believe thats how their bodies should look. If a teen is already struggling with depression then the idea that they won’t be able to get the body they long for turns into a deeper illness like anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa.

Anorexia is when a person, any age or sex, believes they are overweight and they generally stop eating to lose the weight. Many models have it and even athletes. Bulimia is an illness where a person loses control and starts to eat to much they then start to believe they're going to become overweight so they start to use different methods such as vomiting to prevent weight gain. Many with Bulimia also develop Anorexia.

Teens with Anorexia hide it by excessive exercising, over dieting, and if they do eat they turn to Bulimia. Busy parents don’t notice how much weight therir child has lost and if they do forcing them to eat doesn’t help.
