"don't take my kindness for weakness, or my silence for respect"

It was a typical school night in the middle of december. I had just gotten home from school. The weather was frosty, cold, and bitter. Even though the heat was on it was still freezing. I could feel the cold air running through my entire body:I needed something to warm me up. I felt that tea was the best thing for my chills because, i knew that it would sooth my cold bones. I walked to the counter and grabbed the canister of tea. The sweet aroma of passion berry tea met my nose as soon as i opened it.
It was necessary for me to boil some water to seep the tea. I turned on the faucet and filled up the pot of water. With the pot on the burner I waited for the water to come to a boil. About 30 minutes later the water had finally come to a boiling point and was ready for the tea. I carried the hot water to the tea steeper and thoughtlessly poured the water. Then, all of a sudden i felt bursts of sharp pain.
I could feel the scorching water sizzling on the surface of my bare skin. “ouch!” I screamed. I could not believe that i had spilled an entire pot of boiling water on my thigh. My attempt to make tea was an epic fail. “erin are you okay?” My mother questioned. “yes, i’m fine.” I said hesitantly. In my mind i knew that i was not ok. But, I decided to keep it to myself to prevent my mother from being worried, stressed, and thinking that it was her fault because, she let me handle boiling water. “This is my fault, if only i had been watching you this incident never would have occurred.” My mother said worriedly
“no, it’s not your fault, i’m the one that decided to make tea and i’m the one that spilled the water.” I stated. “i’ll be fine, there isn’t even a mark or burn, all i need is some ice.” I assured her. But 30 minutes later, i found that i was extremely wrong. There was more than just a little mark or blister. Ice was not what i needed. The burn on my leg began to expand and swell; It went from a small unnoticeable mark, to a big, swollen burn that covered a large portion of my upper thigh. Me and my mom both new that i needed to seek medical attention immediately. The pain in my leg would appear and then dissapear. “Mom!!!!” I screamed. “My is starting to to hurt again.
As time progressed, the pain became worse and worse every second. The pain was so intense that my leg went numb and all i could do was crawl ; So, my mom had to help me walk to the car. After a 15 minute drive, we finally arrived at the urgent care center. I checked in at the front desk and 5 minutes later i was called back to see the urgent care doctor. They examined my leg and asked me what happened. I thoroughly explained my situation.
With the Blood pressure cuff on my arm, i sat still and tried not to move a single muscle. I could feel a pulse in my arm; i felt it throbbing in a back and forth motion, and the veins slowly became visible after each squeeze of the rubber bulb. My arm was released from the cuff, the pulsating stopped, and my veins began to disappear. They looked at my burn once more . Sitting in the examination room, i awaited my results
It was determined that i had a second degree burn. Nurse Katharine placed some ointment and a bandage on my burn. She gave me some extra bandages and some a prescription for my burn ointment. She sent me on my way and we left the urgent care center. I regret making that tea so carelessly and causing myself such a painful injury. I have always been known as accident prone and clumsy. Being careful is something that i need to work on to prevent more self inflicted injuries.

First of all, I'm so sorry about the burn! That must have been so bad. I like all of the details in it, and besides some small grammar errors, it's really good. Keep writing.

Nothing's impossible, just improbable.

As an avid tea drinker, I can semi-relate to the situation. I, too, have innocently been looking forward to a relaxing cup of tea and ended up in pain. :( I think you could have expanded this piece, maybe used a bit more description. Your description leading up to and including the burn was awesome, but then the story dropped off. I would recommend a slightly longer conclusion, possibly including more details about the ride to the urgent care center or the treatment itself. I'm sending "past you" a virtual hug and some cookies. That burn must have really hurt! ~Caspian
