Friendship Narrative
Like most high schoolers, I have a close group of friends I rely on to get me through regular teenage problems. Through the good times and bad times of life I always look to my friends for companionship and assurance in whatever it is I have going on. There are five of us: Casey, Allie, Sally, Meghan and me. Our tight friendship only began in the beginning of last year, yet somehow it feels like we’ve all been best friends since elementary school! Some call us the fab five…I personally think that term is a little cheesy. People in school recognize my friends and me together, kind of like a package. You’d think it would be hard for five girls to be as close to each other as if we are two best friends, yet we manage to look upon each other the same way sisters do. Each one of us has a very different personality from the other. I would say this is what keeps our friendship alive and fun.
I like to think of Casey as the thinker out of the five of us. You can tell her brain is always thinking of responses to what people are saying or doing. Yet, she doesn’t always speak those thoughts of hers. I became friends with Casey freshmen year because we had so many classes together. Casey can be timid at times but is always relaxed and has a fun-loving personality. Except when she is freaking out over a test she has on a stressful day. Then… it is a different Casey. Our special bond formed over the numerous looks we’d flash each other during our gruesome western civilization lessons. Occasionally, our teacher would catch us and we’d laugh for days about it. I will never forget the partner test we took at the end of last year. It was on World War I. We had our desks moved next to each other, our pencils sharpened, our brains focused, and all of a sudden Casey said, “Oh my god! We’re going to fail! Were going to fail! I can’t believe this is 100 questions! How will we finish in time!?!” I looked at her and simply said “We can do this.” We ended up knowing almost every question and working together beautifully. Every question one of us didn’t know, the other one of us did. We still talk about this happy memory all the time. She is one of the most determined people I know. When she sets her mind to something there is honestly no stopping her! Although she can be shy at times, she is also one of the more outgoing people out of the five of us. She is very sociable and likes to make the most of everything. Trustworthiness is Casey’s best quality in my opinion. She can truly keep secrets sealed and brushed under the rug for as long as you tell her to. Her open mindedness makes her the easiest person to talk to and share feelings with.
Allie has a strong, funny, and often-sarcastic personality but sometimes is too shy to speak her mind, similar to Casey. We both have little brothers in 5th grade at Hillendale. This was the spark of our close friendship. We had always been friends but never best friends until high school when our little brothers became best friends as well.
Allie feels like the sister I never had. We are so comfortable with each other and know each other so well. We share clothes, food, and just about anything else two people can! I can do Allie’s makeup and hair just the way she likes it better than she can. Allie is definitely the most comforting friend I have. When I am sad she’ll cheer me up with her delicious homemade puppy chow she is constantly making and show me a funny video of the latest dance routine she and her younger sister Emma have made up. Oh and while were on the dancing topic, I have to add that Allie is definitely the best dancer I know! She can swing her hips as good as Shakira! Allie’s house is a constant party because it is always so busy with her many family members. Her parents are so used to the high noise level they didn’t even mind when we spent almost an entire day playing hide and seek, sardines, and capture the flag indoors on the last day of school last year! Who knew those types of games could still be so fun for high schoolers?
Sally has a very wise, serious, and sweet personality. She has the most motherly role out of all of us. She always keeps us on track and on the right path. I love that she lives up the street from me. We basically live at each other’s houses in our free time and go running together all the time. I remember when she first moved here two years ago and we didn’t know each other at all. All I knew about her was that she used to go to Kennett and would be coming to Unionville for high school. One day Allie was at my door with Sally coming to pick up her brother from my house from their play date. That was the first day we had ever talked and our friendship began! I remember
Thinking, Wow she is so pretty and nice. I wish I knew her better!” I guess fate has some funny way of working because now we’re best friends.
Meghan is confident and doesn’t care what a single person thinks about her. She always does what is right for her and sticks to her values. She has a crazy fun personality and lights up the entire room with her big smile and constant happiness. She will do anything for the ones she loves. Meghan is someone who will always be there for me in any circumstances. For her sweet sixteen, she took us to see a Beyoncé concert, and I remember her being so happy to be with us going to the concert. The entire time she kept asking us, “Is everyone having fun?” or saying, “This is the best night ever!” And it was. It was the best night ever because we were all together. We arrived at the concert in the huge arena and just looked at each other amazed that we were here and about to witness the world’s favorite artist perform. None of us could contain our excitement or smiles. We always have the best time when were together.
It’s times like these that let me know I will have these friends forever. The best feeling in the world is having someone to go to when all you need is a hug to get through the day. Having four friends in a time like that? Well, that doesn’t happen to everyone. I am extremely blessed to have them. Good friends are hard to find so I might as well take advantage of the fact that I found perfect friends.
