My Goodbye
My Goodbye
Isn’t it crazy? How anyone you’ve ever loved can walk out on you ever so carelessly? Without taking one last glance back at what they had. The man who raised you doesn’t even have the decency to comeback and utter the words goodbye. You left your family before thinking you found better, leaving my mom on her knees begging you to come back. I was too young to understand as I watched from the narrow hallway wondering why the gun was pointed to mom’s head, confused, as to why she was playing cops and robbers all by herself. Even after you left, we wanted you to come back .And we welcomed you with open arms. You told us you went on journeys and adventures. You never told us about any of them even though I hoped you would tell me one as a bed time story every night when I laid down to sleep in my power ranger pajamas. I now realize your adventures involved another woman who you loved and cared for so dearly. We weren’t good enough for you huh? Me, your daughter, your son, and your wife weren’t enough for you? My mom ignored your mistake and hid this sad truth from us only so we wouldn’t hate you. And as years passed you began to drift once more. I’m all grown up now old man. You’ve got an even older son then me and a 12 year old waiting to make you proud. We wonder why you come home late and why you don’t acknowledge us as much as you use to. You continue coming home late until you don’t even bother coming home at all. And once again, you didn’t even say goodbye. How do you forget twice? Did we ever even cross your mind a first time? It was recently that I found out you’ve been have the same affair for over 10 years. I stayed up countless nights waiting for you to come home hoping you would come in my room and say I love you as I pretended I was asleep. We gave you our all to get nothing in return. My brother and I glorified you put you on a pedestal with the desire to be just like you. You gave up on us again and we still haven’t given up on you. I hope your new family makes you happy and I hope you don’t end up leaving them too. This is my goodbye to you.
