The Plane Ride
I looked out of the window at the clear blue sky. All I could see was clouds for miles and miles. As I turned around I saw my best friend, Ashley, in the seat next to me. It was finally summer and I was finally on a plane to the beautiful island of Aruba. I’ve been waiting for this day for so long. Me and Ashley had been planning this trip since december and now we were on our way! Ashley’s family has a timeshare in Aruba and they go there every other summer. Ashley’s older sister, Lissa, was taking her friend Alexa and Ashley was taking me! I was so excited and couldn’t wait for 12, sunny, beach filled days in the gorgeous atmosphere. I shook Ashley awake and told her to look out of the window, and we both were awed at the beautiful scenery. We just couldn’t wait for the plane to land.
It was about a four and a half hour plane ride and we were already halfway into it. All I wanted was to feel the plane descending downward, but I still had two hours left! It was okay though, Ashley was awake now, right? Wrong, she had already dozed back into a deep sleep. “Here goes a boring two hours!“, I thought to myself. Then, I went to go reach for my phone, figuring that would keep me busy. As I tried to turn on my phone, the red, empty battery screen popped up, showing me that my phone was dead. “Great” I whispered and sarcasm. I then attempted to try to fall asleep. I tried every sleeping position possible for a confined plane seat, but I just couldn’t get comfortable! I was way too anxious to get off of the plane. I sat, and sat, and sat for what seemed like an eternity. I checked my watch, “Had it seriously only been twenty minutes!?” I have always been an anxious and impatient person, so sitting on a lane for four hours is not an ideal situation for me whereas I get antsy and super bored. This plane ride was no different and for some reason I couldn’t find anything to keep my busy. I was hungry and bored and I wanted to get up and run around. I even went to the bathroom a good five times just to get up and do something.
“The flight attendants will now come around with snacks”, boomed a strong voice through the speakers throughout the plane. Finally some food was coming! All I wanted was a nice ceasar salad with juicy iceberg lettuce. However, the flight attendant came around with pretzels, nuts and soda. There goes my salad fantasy. “Hey Emily did you get me a snack?” said ashley in a groggy tired voice. Finally ashley was awake, I was so bored! Me and Ashley then chatted, laughed, and took pictures. The excitement was building and we kept checking the plane tv where it told us where the plane was and when it should land. There was only an hour left! After that me and Ashley both fell asleep. In my dream I imagined snow white sand and aqua water as clear as crystal. I dreamed of palm tree galore and my skin tanning in the tangerine sun. Just as I was deep into my dream, I heard a muffle come from the plane speakers. I jerked awake and listened carefully. “Passengers please turn off your electronics and sit in your seats as we are getting prepared for landing”. ARUBA HERE WE COME!
