My Exciting Night
It was pitch black and dead silent. All you could hear was the bugs buzzing around you waiting for the perfect chance to suck your blood. While I sat patiently in the tree stand, I had my bow and arrow ready to fire for that one deer i’ve been wanting to shoot. Then all of a sudden I hear cracking and movement in the background. The first thing that came to my mind was that there was a deer feeding off my bait that I have left out.
As I was slowly turning around, I spotted a huge Doe. This one look great, So I waited for the right moment to take a great shot. With my bow in my hand waiting for a push of a button ready to fire. Then all of sudden the deer dashed off. I was very angry that I wasn't able to take a shot at the right time. Right then it came to my mind that this is gonna be a horrible night.
So there I sat in the freezing cold, with my teeth chattering and the cold wind going up and down the middle of my back. As time went on I sat there waiting for the next chance. I thought to myself if, “am I ever going to a deer? And if its this was the right time?.
I remembered what my dad said to me, “Never give up until your win your prize”
And that made me stay there even longer. Moments later I saw movement yards away.
I thought to myself, “Could this be the moment that I have been waiting for”?.
I was waiting for it to come towards to my my bait. As soon as it got out behind the, I saw that it was a buck but it was too hard to what point it was. The second it went down to eat the bait I left out, I saw the kill spot. I pulled the bow back to get a good aim. It was hard to pull the string back because of how cold it was. But then with the press of the button, it happened. You could see the force of the arrow when it struck the deer.
I shouted with joy. I was so happy that I shot one. I quickly climbed out of the tree and ran back to my dads cabin. The minute I ran inside I could smell the deer jerky from the other days kill that my dad had shot. I walked in all sad to trick him into thinking that i didn't get anything. I started out telling him about the doe.
Then after that I yelled... “Yes I got one”.
At first he didn't believe me because if I did mine was better because he shot a doe. After I got done rubbing my kill in his face …
He told “go take a shower and get some sleep and we will go find your deer in the morning” .
I woke up around 10:00 am and usually i don’t wake up that early. I quickly ran out to the kitchen.
The moment I saw him I asked, “When are we going to go look for my deer”.
He said , “We will as soon as we get done eating”.
So soon as breakfast was served I chowed down on the bacon, eggs and french toast. when I was done I rinst of my plate... and dashed to my room and got dressed. He told me to grab my bow just in case its not fully dead. After I got my bow we went to the shed and got our four wheeler and hooked the trailer to it then out to the woods we went. First we went to the hunting blind that I was in.
After we approached there he then asked me...”Where was the deer at when you shot it”
I remembered that it was about 30 yds away. We found some blood from where I first shot it. After I remembered the direction that it ran. It took us about one and a half hours to find it and the minute my dad seen it. His eyes blew up like a hot air balloon. I started to crack up because it looked like he was jealous. After we discovered it, it turned out to be a six point buck and as soon as I found that out my mind exploded. I then loaded the heavy deer up onto the trailer and off we went back home. When My dad and I got back home ...I parked my four wheeler in the shed, Hung up the deer by its two back legs. My dad told me to grab the saw to cut of the deers head so then we can leave it hanging for about two hours so for the blood will drain out of the deer. After I cut of the deers head I carefully cut of its antlers so then I would have a memory of my first time hunting As time went on it was time to clean the deer.
My dad made me do it but he stood and watched me just in case I was missing a big chunk of me, Etc. The only tip that he gave me was,“don't cut the guts open”
And I remembered one time I was watching him clean his deer , He accidentally cut the guts open and it smelled so bad. As I started tearing the fur off, I noticed that the meat was freezing because it has been sitting outside all day. Then I went of buy cutting the stomach open. I accidentally cut the guts open. It was the worse mistake I had ever made in my entire life. The guts were slipping through my hands as i was trying to keep it in one spot. The meat and guts were so cold it felt like i was gonna get frost bite. It seemed like a skunk just sprayed everywhere. smelt so bad but I had to deal with. I then began by cutting out chunks of meat.
As I was cutting meat out I came across the liver and the heart and right and I was about to throw it in the gut bucket my dad said, “Hey don't throw that away, thats good meat”
The first thing that came to my mind was. Ewwww. it took me about two hours to clean the deer because I had to make sure I got all the meat and etc. we I got done, I took the deer to the woods to dumped the bones, guts, and yea. when I instantly got inside I cut the meat of the four legs that was on the deer. then I had to go through and clean the meat . After I was finished cleaning the meat. I put the meat in a ziplock bag and threw it into the fridge. And of course the next day my dad made the best deer jerky ever.
