FFA Camp
During summer for some people, it turns out to be a really good and fun time, and some might even meet someone who they will never forget about for the rest of their lives. During the summer of 2012, I went to FFA camp, which turned out to be one of the best experiences I have ever been involved in because of all the people I met. I realized how their lives are not too different from mine.
I stayed at camp for one whole week, and during that time I tried talking with as many people as I could just because I like to have as many friends as possible. The first day was by far the hardest day at camp because no one knew anyone and communication was very low, but throughout the day at camp, there were several activities that I and the rest of the 480 people played just to meet and greet new people.
At the end of the first day, we had a dance that‘s just like our school homecoming just without the dressing up, and that is when I met this girl who had the prettiest crystal blue eyes I had ever seen. I didn’t really say anything to her because I saw her at the end of the dance, and the groups of friends that I was hanging with were getting ready to head back to the cabin to go to bed because the dance was over. Curfew was midnight; plus, we had to get up at six in the morning to do a polar bear jump.
For the polar bear jump, we jumped into the lake when it was freezing cold. I vividly remember jumping into the freezing cold water. My chest completely just stopped working because it was so cold, and my arms turned purple. Getting out of the water was even worst because the air was colder than the water, and when I stepped out of the water my breath looked like it came from a fog machine. We mainly did this just to wake up and score points for our team, so it was worth it.
After the polar bear jump, we ate breakfast, which tasted really good because we had pancakes, and then we went into our activities. That’s when I saw that special girl who I saw at the dance. I wanted to talk to her so much because she was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. Throughout the day we kept making eye contact, and it was killing me because no matter what she was heading somewhere I wasn’t. Then finally we had free time during camp. She was walking by herself, so I decided to go up to her and introduce myself. Her name was Jamie, and it turned out we had so much in common. After we met each other, we instantly started talking about everything, and no matter what, we didn’t stop talking.
Throughout the rest of the week, we hung out and did everything together. She even came up to the rifle range with me, and we both shot guns for a good three hours not caring about anything. I was pretty impressed that she could even shoot a gun. We had so much in common that it wasn’t funny. She even takes hogs to the fair, so she is a total farm girl. Although she doesn’t really work on a farm, she cuts wood, and she hunts even though she doesn’t do it all the time.
The last day of camp, we had one last dance, and Jamie and I danced until our legs wouldn’t move any more. Then we went to the campfire and just lay there on the ground and looked at the sky and talked until three in the morning, hoping morning wouldn’t come because we both knew we wouldn’t get to see each other again till next year unless we visited each other. We live at least two to three hours away from each other, which makes it a little bit harder.
Morning finally came around, and I can still remember all the girls at camp crying and everyone hugging and shedding tears just because they didn’t want to say good-bye to all their new friends. Everyone said his or her goodbyes, and I walked over to Jamie and there were no words that were said. We just stood there and stared at each other and then my instructor told me to hurry up, so we hugged and said our goodbye. I still remember every second of that goodbye. After we were done, I headed home and remember saying to myself, ‘I wish I could see that girl just one more time!’
