Parasol
A fellow will remember a lot of things you wouldn’t think he would.
Take me for example: one day, back when I was 9 years old,
I was crossing over to Boston on the bridge on a busy Friday afternoon.
And as we pulled out, there was another car pulling in, and on it there was a girl staring aimlessly into the upcoming traffic. A white dress she had on.
Her hair was tied back. I only saw her for a second. She didn't see me at all, but
I'll bet a month hasn't gone by since that day that I haven't thought of that girl.
We are changed souls; we don't look at things the same way anymore; for there was once a time when we expected the best. But then the worst happened, did it not? And so we will never be surprised again. I miss that girl. I miss her everyday.
