Steady in the Soul, Free in the Spirit
Birthplace by Novo Amor
Hands-on the lifesaver. Head parallel to the sky. My lungs filled to the brim with air (with life). The hourglass flips as do I, gravity does the work.
The weight of every thought settles on the crown of my head. An iron mind anchoring me to the deep.
Narrow your breath
From every guess
I've drawn my birthplace
Everything falls silent.
Desperate to grasp the sound of a barren sea. My eyes open, only this time the world shrinks, and the cold curls in on me. The chill pierces my lungs, tightening as tension ripples through every muscle fiber. Out of the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of failure, the nine-meter marker.
I don’t need a friend
I won’t let it in again
On the brink of acquiescence. My ears shrieked, I had to equalize. The ten-meter marker is within sight and I feel my last pittance of air travel through the canal in my ears along with it my last fraction of grit.
The descent brings me to 10 meters, peace.
Falter, Flutter, and Fly.
Here at my best
It’s all at rest
And I found a better place

This piece is about my experiences as a freediver and my love for music and how the two go hand in hand to help me overcome mental barriers to pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
