A New Chapter

Springtime is almost over, and just like how every drop of wine can’t bring back the grapes, I can’t bring back the season. The sweet memories float into the distance, as summer starts to wrap around with layers of green leaves beating in the warm wind. The leaves on the street are swinging around and shining under the sun, with little gaps in between forming pinholes. They cast moon shaped crescents onto the ground, reminding me of the times when the moon and stars were crystal clear, meteors shot across the night sky. The yellow-orange sunset takes in all the treasured times I’ve had, telling me that soon there will be a new day - a new season. As I walk across the sidewalk, the aromatic and delicate flowers on the roadside seem to be smiling at me, and the vehicles driving by seem to be playing a cheerful symphony for me. A single song is playing on a loop in my headphones, while the night slowly spreads out, revealing just a few stars. In the dark night, fireflies are resting in between the arms of swaying leaves, their bright green light shining so bright as if they were stars to another world. Their twinkling conversations sound somewhat fan-like, as they rest down onto leaves to admire the moon. I see the bright full moon on the sea, like a silver plate resting on a piece of dark blue tablecloth. A clear ray of light reflects the sea water, holding it closer to me, inviting me to share the warm feeling of summer. Maybe the start of summer will create new memories. The stars remind me of aspects from every season, and that’s a cherished gift - the key behind all my adventures. Memories last, and some are just meant to be remembered. There is one thing I will never forget, year after year, even if the winter snow melts into the spring flowers and the summer disappears into the autumn leaves. Memories.

With this piece, I wanted to experiment with descriptive writing and imagery. I hope that by describing the scenery around me, and how the seasons change, I’ve achieved the desired effect of describing how fast time passes, and that we should move on from the past. I like this piece because of the imagery it allows me to see and how it brings an unexplained calming sensation.
