Underwater
Click. Clack. Click. Clack. Take a step. Draw closer to the glossy black of the piano.
Breathe in, out. In, out. Hands shake. Face them, bow.
Sit down, glide fingers across the ivory. Sweat glistens.
Shift the seat. Raise hands, draw in a shaky breath, exhale.
Press a finger into the key.
I fall underwater.
But I am not underwater to drown.
I play the chord.
I am making music for one person: me.
I press down on the keys again.
I gather my feelings, and I let go.
