Solar Sight
I looked up… only to see the blazing sun. The date was finally August 21, 2017. I thought to myself, the day is finally here. I had spent the morning hiding underneath my dad’s desk at work like a groundhog in its burrow.
The clock had finally struck 11 am and I bolted down the stairs, making sure to have my solar eclipse glasses in hand. Dad yelled at me saying, “Hey, wait for me!” as I beat him to the door at the bottom of the stairs. I swung the door open as I was met with a dimmed, gloomy sight followed by a brisk breeze. My dad and I slipped on our glasses quickly before looking up to see what we had anticipated for months—the solar eclipse.
Others from the building met us in the parking lot to see the eclipse at its peak. Even though the moon had covered most of the sun, its rays punctured through the sky, allowing for some sunlight to seep through. Before I could even glance back up to see the breathtaking sight again, the sun had already begun to pass by the moon ringing in more sunlight. The heat from the hot summer day arrived again and the moment we had waited months for was already over.
